Description

Responsibilities: Performs a wide variety of duties associated with the overall operations of the Wellesley College landscape with primary emphasis on arboriculture, Plant Health Care, and landscape construction projects. Performs duties associated with proper arboricultural care of woody plants specimens such as plant identification, pruning of trees, shrubs and vines, removal of large trees, cabling, mulching fertilizations and pest and disease control and other plant health care techniques. Safe operation of heavy equipment, such as a standard transmission lift truck, back hoe, skid steer loaders, etc. As work requires may be assigned other duties including but not limited to planting, transplanting, tree protection during construction, weed control, turf maintenance, trash and litter control, snow removal and other duties as assigned. The candidate must be a team player, and have the ability to work cooperatively with others. The candidate must perform assigned duties in all weather conditions and in all seasons of the year. The Arborist may at times be assigned to help with golf course operations.

Requirements

Requirements: Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in arboriculture, horticulture or related plant science preferred. The candidate must have at time of hire, certification with the Massachusetts Arborists Association or International Society of Arboriculture. The Arborist must be motivated with a sincere appreciation of, and interest in the care of the diverse and unique landscape of Wellesley College. Must have up to date recent experience in the field of arboriculture; must be able to demonstrate skills regarding use of an aerial lift truck, safe tree climbing techniques, chainsaws, removal of large trees, and up-to-date methods of proper planting, pruning, cabling, bracing and identification and methods of control for pests and diseases. Must have at time of hire a valid class B Massachusetts Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Massachusetts pesticides applicator’s license, Must obtain category 36 pesticide applicators license within one year of hire, Massachusetts hoisting engineers license; must be in good health with the ability to perform strenuous manual labor in all weather conditions including lifting and carrying/transporting heavy loads up to 50lbs., and greater loads with assistance.
