Wellesley College is looking for experienced culinary individuals to join our growing dining services team. Dining Services positions are academic year and union with the potential for full benefits effective within the first 30 days of employment. The scheduled days and work hours may vary. Positions are filled based on availability and are subject to change. Some candidates will start in general service positions to include dishroom and potwasher. All union positions are based on seniority and qualifications.
General Purpose:
This is a versatile position that will have varying responsibilities based on the needs of a specific kitchen or the entire dining department. Prior experience working as a cook within a higher education setting is beneficial; a formal culinary education will benefit an applicant applying. Preparation, cooking, and presentation in a restaurant or corporate dining setting is essential.
Primary Functions:
Good work ethic, positive can-do attitude and effective communication skills are essential. The primary responsibility for this position is to provide the highest quality of service to customers at all times.
This position may be required to use a variety of commercial kitchen equipment and appliances in the cleaning, preparation and/or serving of food items. Team members should hold a basic knowledge of proper and safe usage of equipment and will be trained on standards.
Based on the responsibilities for the position, a team member may be expected to taste products, read menus, and estimate food requirements, check production, keep records in order to accurately plan production requirements and requisition supplies and equipment, as needed.
The person in this position may select recipes per menu cycle, and prepare meals for customers requiring special diets. Other responsibilities may include following recipes and/or product directions for preparing all food items to be consumed in the dining facility. Lastly, the position will comply with all state and local food service regulations, including practicing HACCP standards, as well as all other duties as assigned by Chef Manager, Management, or head cook.


Must have a valid MA driver’s license, prior cooking experience is required. A pre-employment background check and physical are mandatory for employment. Must be able to comprehend, convert and prepare recipes. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs. Must be able to use chemicals required in daily cleaning. Ability to read and comprehend Basic English required. Uniforms as furnished by department. Hair Restraint as required in College-Union Agreement. Meal Breaks as assigned by management.
