Per-Diem Registered Nurse (RN)

The per-diem registered nurse practices within the scope of practice according to the Board of Registration in Nursing. The per-diem registered nurse is a professional who assumes responsibility and accountability for nursing actions and triage care of students presenting to Health Services, a department within the Division of Student Life. The per-diem RN provides direct support to Health Service clinical staff to assure smooth and efficient care of students. The per-diem RN is responsible for evaluating patients presenting complaint during clinical visits as well as during triage phone calls. The per-diem RN participates as an as-needed member of the health care team working toward attaining the Health Service mission and vision.

Primary Responsibilities:

-Obtains initial focused subjective and objective data through history taking, physical examination, and review of records.
-Documents relevant data for every patient as appropriate to the nature and severity of illness an injury.
-Identifies nursing diagnoses/potential complications based on signs and symptoms recognized during focused, systematic assessment.
-Provides necessary education regarding procedures, treatment regimens, and identified outcomes to every patient.
-Accurately implements clinician orders including verbal orders.
-Demonstrates prioritization and organizational skills in care for multiple patients simultaneously.
-Adheres to Health Service policies and procedures.
-Fulfills nursing procedures within the scope of practice of a registered nurse.
-Provides Health Related Education.
-Educates students in the area of health and wellness, self-care and health maintenance
-Educates on the appropriate use of the health care system to facilitate health and academic pursuits.

-Current and active state RN licensure
-Current CPR/AED certification
-Five or more years of broad clinical RN experience in an active practice, preferably with a young adult population. Higher ed experience is a plus.
-High levels of proven culture competence and experience caring for an LGBT and diverse young adult population from a broad demographic are highly desirable.
-Experience with contraceptive technology.
-Knowledge of and proficiency with electronic medical record software, Medicat knowledge preferred.
-Familiarity with CDC and current travelers’ health recommendations.
